Number Topic Description Video
1-1 Classifying Real Numbers
Learn the difference between rational and irrationals as well as integers and whole numbers. In this video, I step through a quick visual to compare and contrast real numbers an how to classify them which will be helpful later on. So stay tuned!
▶️
1-2 Evaluate Expression
In this lesson video, we will review the order of operation (PEMDAS) which will be used to evaluate variable expressions throughout the remainder of this Algebra 2 unit. Please pay careful attention and take time to memorize the order in which to evaluate!
▶️
1-3 Basic Properties
Learn the properties of equality that apply for all real numbers. In this lesson video, we will discuss the communitive and associative property as well as discuss the identity and inverse. The identity will be used in later math units such as Calculus to help simplify a problem!
▶️
1-4 Solving Equations
In this video we will again use the order of operations, but this time in order to isolate a variable so that we can solve an equation. It is important to note that when reversing P-E-MD-AS to isolate the variable within an equation, operations (+, -, *, /) within parentheses must be accounted for AFTER the parentheses are no longer necessary. This occurs when the associative property can be used: (a+b)+c= a+(b+c).
▶️
1-5 Absolute Value Within Equations
When discussing absolute value, it is best to think of the “distance from 0” on the number line. -10 is the same distance from 0 as a positive 10 and the absolute value of either is just 10!
▶️
1-6 Solving Inequalities
I believe on of the most “missed” concepts is forgetting to flip the inequality sign when multiplying or dividing by a negative number. This is very critical to remember when solving inequalities and is explained in this lesson video.
▶️
1-7 Compound Inequalities Part 1
To make absolute value inequalities easier to solve and understand, in this lesson video, we will break the original inequality up into two separate inequalities. One that represents the negative and one that represents the positive.
▶️
1-8 Compound Inequalities Part 2
In this video, we will discuss compound inequalities and the difference between “and” and “or”. For more logic-based information on this concept please continue on to the logic section of my geometry video series.

2-1 Cartesian Coordinate System
The Cartesian Coordinate system is a standard way of mapping points and functions to a graph. In this lesson video, we will use two different axis – the x and y. You can think of each as number lines to get started! We also go over the different quadrants and the location of the origin.
▶️
2-2 Relations and Mapping
Learn about the different relations between functions and mapping concepts such as one-to-one and onto. The domain and range is a key part for each definition. Stay tuned to find out more information!
▶️
2-3 Functions
What is a function? What makes a function? What would be defined as not a function? Hint: Vertical line test is helpful! Find out the answers in this lesson video!
▶️
2-4 Direct Variation
Direct variation is a way of saying that y =kx where k is the constant of variation. Think about if we are working with an equation y=kx where k is constant… that would make k the slope! So y varies directly as x changes.
▶️
2-5 Standard Form of Linear Equations
Linear equations are used a lot in algebra and in real world scenarios as well. Standard form is Ax+By = C which is one of may ways to write a linear equation. Probably not the most popular for our purposes, but useful to know!
▶️
2-6 Slope Intercept Form
This is one of the most popular ways to represent a linear equation. It is helpful because the slope and y-intercept are both easy to pick out of the equations which is extremely helpful for graphing equations!
▶️
2-7 Slope
Slope is the rise over the run or the change in y over the change in x. It is also a useful concept that will continue to come up in later math classes so be sure to commit this to memory! It is helpful for graphing and writing equations.
